A Child Prodigy
Yes, you read it well, Joey Alexander is a child prodigy. He was only 8 years old when he played for a UNESCO ambassador during his trip to Indonesia, Alexander’s hometown. It was right then when Joey decided he had to dedicate his life to jazz. And speaking about dedicating, he also decided to dedicate a song to his country’s most popular city: Bali. Had you heard that song before? His jazz styles mixed with his very own particular touches is what makes his music so special.
But, how does he do it?!
Since then, he has played in many Jazz Festivals and has released one album that debuted at 174 on Billboard 200. And do you want to know the best? He was only 11 years old when that happened in 2014! Since then he has had the honor of playing in front of truly Very Important People such as Bill Clinton in the Arthur Ashe Learning Center gala. Moreover, he also performed at the Premiere Grammy Awards ceremony when he was nominated for the Grammy Award Best Jazz Instrumental Album and Best Improvised Jazz Solo. Isn’t it crazy at such a young age?
We cannot be more excited about what his talent has yet to bring us in the near future. It is truly a privilege for musicians like us to be able to observe how this 15-year-old boy grows and becomes even a greater jazz pianist. So far he has published one studio album called My Favorite Things, but just you wait, because I am pretty sure there will be more in the next few years.
