Digital piano vs acoustic piano

To be or not to be? Digital piano or acoustic piano?

The answer to the second question could be obvious, but there are a lot of factors to be considered. Let’s find five!

  1. Do you have neighbors? If the answer is yes, do you care about them? The piano is a great instrument and I don’t think it could bother anyone if you play during the day. But it is comprehensible that after practicing Czerny for an hour your neighbor could hate your guts.
  2. Do you play for fun? Or do you want to be a professional? If your answer is the first, get a digital piano. If the answer is the second, you should better buy an acoustic piano.
  3. I would not like to ask directly, but… How much money do you want to spend? Acoustic pianos are expensive, and once you decide to spend the money, you should get a good one. If you want to keep it at an amateur level, a good digital one would be enough.
  4. Who do you live with? Acoustic pianos can be loud and maybe you have a brother who hates music! Or your grandmother lives with you and she only wants to sleep all day long. If this is your situation, you need to choose a digital or electric piano.
  5. Do you like to play in the middle of the night? Great! But maybe the 30-year-old businessman living in the flat above yours won’t be so happy about that. And let’s not talk about if you don’t live alone. But, how great would it be to live as a lone wolf in the mountains and be able to play whenever you want…?

If none of this solved your problem, here I found the definitive solution: a hybrid! An acoustic and digital piano AT THE SAME TIME! Yes, there are pianos that have both things. They are a little bit more expensive but don’t tell me this is not a super cool idea!

If you didn’t know that, you are very welcome 🙂 If you did, I must tell you I have one and it is amazing, you can play both day and night without annoying anyone.
