Our favorite moments of André Previn
It is never easy writing about one of the greatest pianists of our time. André Previn sure has made himself a name in the music industry, and not only as a jazz pianist but he is also a great classical pianist and director.
Versatility is one of the qualities we love most about artists. Who does not love taking a look at Johnny Depp’s movies and admiring the very different roles he has played throughout his career? In his top five movies like “Edward Scissorhands” would definitely be included; as well as “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” and unforgettable “Ed Wood”.
Going back to André Previn, we were wondering which would be his top 4. And here is an idea:
4. As a conductor, rehearsing Beethoven’s 7th symphony: how great and unusual is it to see someone as good as André Previn rehearsing? To us, musicians, this is quite a masterclass!
3. As a composer, we have chosen Previn’s Double Concerto for violin, cello, and orchestra.
2. As a soloist, we could not choose anything else but Beethoven’s Triple Concerto for piano, violin, and cello. Just listen to Beethoven’s gentleness on his music and tell us you do not love it as much as we do.
1. And finally, maybe our favorite, André Previn as a great jazzist. Our jaws drop watching him play and listening to the neatness of his piano interpretation. It is not easy to be both a great classical musician and also a great jazzman! Only a little few can have it all, hands down to André Previn! We could not choose anything else but this great performance of Previn and Oscar Peterson.
