For Musicians, by Musicians: 4 Easy Steps to Create Your Own Music
Has this ever happened to you? You have a melody stuck in your head, but you have no idea where or how to start writing it down? Your next hit might be right there in your head just waiting for you!
Being an actual Beethoven, and creating your own music, sounds like a big deal, but it doesn’t have to be. Now, it’s more accessible than ever! We know the beginnings can be hard, so here are some ideas to put your ducks in a row, and start working on that melody right away.
Step 1. Start with what you have.
Just stop waiting for the perfect gear, and use what you already have! Surely, you don’t have to go far to get a laptop or a phone. And that’s more than enough!
Grab your phone and record yourself singing the melody. It might sound rough, but this is your starting point. Then, get a free Digital Audio Workstation, or DAW on your laptop (say, GarageBand or Audacity) and start shaping your melody into a full track. These are simple tools, but they work!
Step 2. Just play around!
If, eventually, you have an instrument in hand, try to bring something to life! A simple accompaniment or some simple chords should be enough. All you need to do is play around and experiment until you’ve squeezed out every drop of creative juice. That’s where the magic happens.

Step 3. Get inspired, share ideas, collaborate with other musicians.
If your creativity starts to falter, look for inspiration! Listen to your favorite artists, explore new sounds, dig into the songs that really speak to you—what about them makes them special
Collaborate with friends, get a jam session going, and share your creations! Also, don’t be afraid to meet other musicians online and bounce around some ideas. There’s no shame in starting with a “copy” that becomes your own. Artistic co-creation is trending!
Step 4. Keep it simple, finish something!
Last but not least: don’t get stuck chasing perfection! Don’t go looking for a huge orchestral symphony—a chorus and a verse can still slap. Start small and just keep going. I swear it’ll be fine!
If you eventually need help developing your ideas, want professional musicians to build it on, or even have it recorded, mix and mastered with pro audio quality, My Song Productions is the place to go! Don’t hesitate to get in touch via email or through the contact form in our website.
