I don't know how to read sheet music very well. Can you help me?

Yes, we’re here to help! Here are some of the things we can do:

  • Create a Synthesia (piano only) or Soundslice (any instrument) tutorial for you.
  • Simplify the piece to suit your level.
  • Add fingering suggestions in the most complex passages of the score to help you learn the piece.
  • Add educational large noteheads with note names.

Can you create a video tutorial for me so that I can learn how to play the piece?

Absolutely! We can create a Synthesia (piano only) or Soundslice (any instrument) tutorial for you.

I have transcribed a song but I need someone to proof read and edit it. Can you do that?

Indeed! If you just need us to work on the layout so that it looks like a beautiful, professional score, our team of proof editors will take care of it!

If you need us to check the accuracy of the notes, this will take more time. Depending on the complexity of the music and the accuracy of your transcription, it might take more time for us to edit the score than to transcribe it from scratch. Nevertheless, it is definitely something we can do for you!

I want to write a musical and have some ideas for melodies and lyrics. Can you help me develop these into a full musical?

Certainly! We have worked on many projects like this! You can send us your ideas of melodies and lyrics and our songwriters will help you develop them into full songs. Our piano transcribers can also create beautiful piano accompaniments for the songs.

If you would like to make the project even larger, we can eventually create arrangements for a pit orchestra too!

Technical questions

What is a sheet music .pdf file?

Our .pdf files open as clean, professional-looking sheet music on any computer. They are ready for printing at home or at any store.

What is a midi file?

When we transcribe a piece, we can extract a midi file from the sheet music we create. This midi file is a digital file that contains the information needed for computer programs or electronic instruments to be able to reproduce the piece of music. It doesn’t have any sound of its own, but instead, it guides the program or electronic instrument on how to produce the music by giving it information on what notes to play, how long to play them for, etc.

If you open the midi file in a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) you will be able to hear and edit it. However, please keep in mind that this is only a rough representation of the music as it is computerized and will sound very robotic. It does not contain the nuances and beauty of a real-life performance.

It can be very useful for practicing!

What is a Sibelius (.sib), Finale (.musx), or MuseScore (.mscz) file?

These are files from the specific music notation software programs we use when manually transcribing the music note-by-note.

.sib Sibelius files can only be opened in Sibelius music notation software.

.musx Finale files can only be opened in Finale music notation software.

.mscz MuseScore files can only be opened in MuseScore music notation software.

If you have one of these software programs, you’ll be able to open the file and edit it!

What is a MusicXML (.xml) file?

MusicXML is a file format with music notation information. It can be opened by any music notation software such as Sibelius, Finale, or MuseScore. We generate these files from our preferred software so that they can be compatible with any other notation program. More info can be found here.

Does this service violate copyright law?

The service provided is intended for private, non-commercial use. You can enjoy our transcriptions at home with friends and family but cannot resell, distribute, or publish without consent.

If we transcribe or arrange your original music, we will not withhold any rights and you are free to use it as you wish.

I am a songwriter and I want you to transcribe my music. Who will own the sheet music?

If we transcribe your original music, we will not withhold any rights on the transcriptions. The scores provided will belong to you – you can distribute, share, and sell them as you wish.

Can I sell your transcriptions online?

You will only be able to sell our transcriptions online if they are your original compositions. In any other case, the score is intended for private, non-commercial use only.

If I send you a midi file - will this facilitate the transcription process?

Usually, having the midi file does not make the transcription process quicker or easier for us. Converting midi files into sheet music doesn’t really work as the results are full of errors and have to be fully revised, a process that often takes longer than transcribing the piece from scratch.

There is however one advantage to having a midi file. It can help us ensure full 100% note accuracy as we’ll clearly be able to see what pitches are being played in any ambiguous sections.

How do you transcribe music? Do you use a transcription software?

We transcribe and arrange music by ear, manually typing it into our music notation software note-by-note. This is a detailed and thorough process. We do not use any music transcription software because it delivers poor results and at My Sheet Music Transcriptions, we strive to provide a world-class transcription service.

All of our transcribers are professional musicians who take pride in their craft.
