Technical questions

.pdf files should open on your computer as a clean, professional-looking sheet music file that you should be able to print from home or at any printing store.

A midi file is a Musical Instrument Digital Interface. It’s a way to connect devices that make or control sound — synthesizers, samplers, or computers — so they can communicate with each other, using midi messages.

If you open it in a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) you will be able to edit it and hear a rough representation of the music. Please do not expect this to sound as if it would be played by a human performer.

These are both files from the specific score notation software programs we use to manually write out the music we transcribe note-for-note.

.sib Sibelius files can only be opened in Sibelius music notation software.
.musx Finale files can only be opened in Finale music notation software.

MusicXML is a file format containing music notation information. It can be opened by any music notation software such as Sibelius, Finale, or Musescore. We generate these files from our preferred notation software programs, so that they can be compatible with other ones. More info can be found here.

If we transcribe your original compositions and songs, we will not withhold any rights on the sheet music. The scores provided will belong to you, so you will be able to distribute, share, sell, etc. as you wish.

You will only be able to sell our transcriptions online if they are your original compositions. In any other case, the score will be intended for private, non-commercial use only.

Usually, the fact that the midi is available does not make the transcription process easier if the midi file is not quantized as all the notes will be off the tempo grid and will have to be manually entered into the music notation software. There is also the added difficulty of writing the inner voices with secondary layers and ensuring that the sheet music is readable and easy to understand. It often takes longer for us to revise them than to transcribe the piece from scratch.

We transcribe and arrange music by ear, manually typing it into our music notation software note-for-note. This is a detailed and thorough process. We do not use any music transcription software because it delivers poor results and at My Sheet Music Transcriptions we strive to provide a world-class transcription service.
