Frequently asked questions

Piano jazz trio Transcription

I love jazz, but some piano solos are too difficult for me… can you create a simplified version?

Don’t worry! We can simplify the music for you and accommodate to your piano-playing skills!

What is the difference between a jazz piano solo transcription and a jazz piano trio transcription?

Jazz piano solo: If the recording has a piano only, will transcribe the piano exactly as it sounds.

Jazz piano trio: If the recording is a jazz piano trio (or any ensemble with more than just a piano) we have two options: transcribe the piano part exactly as played (so that you can play in a trio/ensemble), or create an arrangement condensing all the instrumental parts into one piano part.

Can you transcribe this complex solo note-for-note?

Yes, we can! Our jazz piano transcribers are proficient jazz pianists who work exclusively on jazz transcriptions. We have tackled extremely challenging solos – we can send you some samples so that you can see our exceptional accuracy.

If you would like to develop your improvisation skills, we can also transcribe the chord symbols only so that you can create your own solo from that harmonic base.

How much does a jazz piano trio transcription cost?

Our prices depend on the length and complexity of the music. When evaluating the price of a jazz piano solo we listen out for the speed, density of notes, rhythmic complexity, harmonic complexity, inner voicings, and whether there is any repeated material or not. Send us the solo you want us to transcribe and we’ll send you an accurate price quote.

You can find some more pricing information here.

If I want a jazz piano trio transcription but I do not need the solo – is it cheaper?

Yes, the solo part is usually the most challenging to transcribe. If you want us to leave it out, this will help bring down the cost of the transcription.

Can you include chord symbols?

Indeed! Let us know if you need them so we can provide you with the best price quote.

I love this piece but it is a trio and I am going to be playing it alone.

That’s not a problem! We can transcribe the piano part exactly as it sounds but in this case, we would suggest condensing some of the bass notes into the piano part so that it works in a solo setting.

Our jazz trio wants to play a piece but we need separate sheets, can you help us?

Of course! We can definitely provide you with separate sheets for each instrument of the jazz trio.

You can see more details on our Bass Transcription Service here and our Drum Transcription Service here.

Instead of a note-for-note transcription, I would like a lead sheet of the trio. Is this possible?

Yes, of course! We can create a lead sheet for you. We will include the structure,  head, and chord symbols. Let us know if you want us to include anything else (like cues, etc.)

I want to play this song but I don’t like the originally key because it has too many accidentals. Can you change it?

Sure thing! We can transpose it to a key that’s easier to read. Let us know the maximum number of accidentals that you feel comfortable with and we’ll find the key that sounds the best.

If we have transcribed the piece for you, we’ll change the key at no extra cost.

If you already have the sheet music and would just need a transposition, we have a specialized transposing service for just that!

Can you add fingering hints to the piano sheet music transcription?

Yes! This is something very helpful and we can do it for you – it will only have a small extra cost!

I have a very old recording of a jazz piano trio piece I want you to transcribe. The sound quality is pretty bad. Can you still help?

Sure thing! We have experience working with old recordings and can pick out the notes despite the poor sound quality. In sections where the piano is very inaudible, our transcribers can creatively adapt and write something that fits within the musical context of the piece.

Can you do a video tutorial for me so that I can learn how to play the piece?

Absolutely! We can create a Synthesia video tutorial or a Soundslice video tutorial for you. Let us know what you prefer!

I don't know how to read sheet music very well. Can you help me?

  • Add educational large noteheads with note names.

I am a songwriter and I want you to transcribe my music. Who will own the sheet music?

If we transcribe your original music, we will not withhold any rights on the transcriptions. The scores provided will belong to you – you can distribute, share, and sell them as you wish.

How do you transcribe music? Do you use a transcription software?

We transcribe and arrange music by ear, manually typing it into our music notation software note-by-note. This is a detailed and thorough process. We do not use any music transcription software because it delivers poor results and at My Sheet Music Transcriptions, we strive to provide a world-class transcription service.

All of our transcribers are professional musicians who take pride in their craft.

Who are you?

We are a team of 40+ professional musicians, transcribers, arrangers, and composers. Our headquarters are in Barcelona, where we started our journey, but we now work with musicians from all around the world – mainly across the US, Canada, Australia, and Europe – with a strong presence in New York and London! Our mission is to spread music globally through customized transcriptions and arrangements.

We have been growing since 2011, and have completed more than 32,000 transcriptions so far. We believe a friendly customer service and a talented group of music transcribers is the best way to provide you with the sheet music you have always wanted.

Who do you usually work for?

We have an extensive and diverse clientele: from original composers and songwriters who want their music transcribed to music lovers who want to play their favorite songs but cannot find the sheet music online, and gigging musicians who don’t have the time to create their sheet music themselves.

Our work ranges from big projects with orchestras, bands, musicals, and schools to individual projects, with both professional and amateur musicians.

What we all have in common is that music is our passion 🙂
