Rosalia, Sheet Music and a Supreme Marketing Strategy

Reading time: 5 minutes

This is how Rosalia got her fans to play a song that had not yet been released

A few weeks ago, social media was suddenly flooded with a mysterious score. But where did it come from? Well, it’s a supreme marketing strategy arranged by Spanish singer Rosalia.

Rosalia’s worldwide campaign featured a piece of sheet music? Seems unbelievable, but it’s true!

Rosalia’s sheet music

On October 13, Rosalia posted on Substack a sheet music manuscript under the title BERGHAIN. No one knew what it meant, or where that score came from, as it did not correspond to any of her previously published songs.

However, Rosalia’s followers immediately started playing the sheet music on social media. A couple of days later, the internet lit up again. On October 15, a massive poster of Rosalia’s face featuring the same manuscript appeared in Plaza Callao, one of the busiest spots in Madrid (Spain).

Nothing had been officially announced, but the hype was already built among Rosalia’s fans.

All about Berghain

Today, we all know that the mysterious manuscript corresponded to Rosalia’s new single, Berghain. The release of a new album titled LUX was announced via TikTok and Instagram on October 20. A week later, on October 27, the first single, Berghain, was officially released.

Berghain is a collaboration between Spanish singer Rosalia, Icelandic artist Björk, and American contemporary composer Yves Tumor. The song is described as “deeply personal”, characterized by introspective vocals and an atmospheric melody, and features contributions from the London Symphony Orchestra.

Critics have compared Berghain to Winter by Antonio Vivaldi and The Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky. It has been classified within the genres of art pop, avant-garde, and baroque. Berghain and Rosalia’s 4th studio album Lux belongs to label Columbia Records.

Final thoughts

Thanks to the sheet music, social media was buzzing about Berghain many days before its release. Everyone was talking about Rosalia’s next move, sharing theories, and waiting for the news. The hype was built with a masterstroke –– long before the official announcement!

So, what’s the conclusion of this article? Sheet music.

That’s how Rosalia got her fans to learn, embrace, and eagerly await a song that hadn’t even been released yet.

And that’s why we are here, too.
